Poetic resistance: Karen long-distance nationalism, rap music, and YouTube

This article investigates a concern among encamped elder Karen refugees (an ethnic minority from Myanmar) living along the Thai–Myanmar border that youth are disconnected politically and culturally. I argue creative, active participants reimagining revitalising politics culture in their image. explore how displaced youths have found voice rap they express this digitally mediated lived space of YouTube. consider YouTube as where citizenship is reimagined long-distance nationalism articulated. Finally, contend transforming youths’ political experiences mobility actively – just not way elders expect.
